We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is the inaugural installment of Matthew Tysz's series. This book introduces the kingdom of Voulhire, a realm seemingly perfect but tainted by elements of evil and corruption. Galen Bray, inheriting a steel forge business from his uncle, transitions from the Lands of the Princes to the illustrious world of Voulhire. However, the kingdom, governed by King Wilhelm, is not devoid of turmoil; the execution of displeasing lords, like Lord Medorath, raises questions about its true peace. Galen's experiences unravel mysteries surrounding the kingdom's true nature, its complex political landscape, and the enigmatic execution of Lord Medorath.

This book was indeed a great one. It delved into various characters, with each chapter focusing on different individuals, making it easy to follow their individual storylines. Tysz astutely differentiates between the physical universe (Cosmos) and the realm of magic (Caromentis), aiding in the understanding of transitions between worlds. The inclusion of a map assists readers in visualizing the kingdom's geography, complementing the vivid descriptions of its towns and inhabitants.

The only issue I had with this book was the initial slow pacing in the central plot, which gradually gained momentum as the tale unfolded. Nevertheless, the narrative's twists and turns eventually grip readers, drawing them deeper into the story. Themes of politics, mystery, and parallel worlds drive the narrative. While the book contains mature content unsuitable for younger readers, it offers a layered, intricate world that mature audiences will find compelling. I did not find any errors in this book, which shows that it was exceptionally well written by the author.

I recommend this book to mature readers intrigued by immersive world-building, political intricacies, and fantastical elements. Despite the slow start and initial complexity, We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies captivates with its great narrative, detailed world-building, and interwoven character arcs, earning a solid 5 out of 5 stars for its overall storytelling prowess.
