For the Love of Suzanne
By: Kristi Hudeck-Ashwill

For the Love of Suzanne by Kristi Hudecek-Ashwill published by onlinebookclub, is a romance novel. The cover of the book shows a romantic encounter between a man and woman and is appropriate for this style book.

For the Love of Suzanne is a typical romance novel with a time travel twist. Suzanne and Cody are star crossed lovers destined to be together. Suzanne is beaten, broken and battered... feeling loved by no one. Cody is a half breed who has spent his whole life scorned and not accepted by either of his people, he feels unworthy of love. A freak accident causes their worlds to collide and eras to cross. Cody and Suzanne start on a journey that neither one can explain.

The love that forms is immediate but neither will voice it or acknowledge it. Both hero and damsel in distress have very low self-esteem…add to that confusion and culture shock and you have a recipe for a great war on love. Decisions have to be made but the choices are not good and consequences are heartbreaking. Each new choice becomes even more disastrous. As Cody desperately tries to save Suzanne his love for her grows. Suzanne finds herself falling for Cody, but finds it difficult to trust him. After a world of abuse even the most innocent, tender moves cause her to shrink back with fear. Seeing Suzanne pull away from him, Cody’s feelings of unacceptance and unworthiness are heightened.

I like this book because it shows how choices in life can be very hard. An old cliché comes to mind immediately as I read this book, “pick the lesser of two evils”. We pick what we feel is the best choice and it ends up being wrong. Then, when we try to correct it…we make it so much worse. A constant battle for peace and balance. For love to work it takes sacrifices on both sides. There has to be a lot of trust and patience.

What I didn’t like about the book is that it left out a lot of other emotions. The author clearly shows the love emotion between Cody and Suzanne, but skims over or barely touches on all the other emotions like fear, anger, mistrust, etc. I felt that the author could have built on some of these emotions to really bring the book and characters to life.

I found this book easy to read and it kept me going and even though romance novels are not for me, I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 because I know that my romance reading friends would love it.
