For the Love of Suzanne by Author Kristi Hudecek-Ashwill is set in both the 1800's and 20th Century. It is a riveting time travel romance about two people in different times wanting to be accepted for who they are and find true love. A woman in the 20th Century with a hard life in a marriage with no kindness, love, caring and compassion from her husband. On the other hand,in the 1800's half-breed Indian not being accepted by either race- Whites or Indians being an outcast, never accepted in the world and feeling as though he does not deserve the love of anyone with how he was been treated his whole life. This book captured my attention and I could hardly put the book down.
I give the book a 3 out of 4 . As I do wish it was more clear how Suzanne went back in time in her accident, it was a completely different situation with how she made it back to her time with some sort of tornado vortex like the Wizard of Oz, I wish there was an explanation of how she got there in the first place. There was also no explanation for his odd behavior in the snow for this man being a fierce warrior it didn't make any sense to me.
Also, the amount of time it took Cody to find Suzanne again seemed unrealistic with how much he loved her I don't think he would have left her side, let alone hear her voice and not know it is her. I know this is meant to add a twist to the story but 7 months for two soul mates seemed incredibly out of character for Cody. This honorable, fearless, protective man who throughout the book can't stay away from Suzanne I don't think he would have left her side at all in her condition at that time.
I did enjoy how Kristi was not afraid to be real with situations that happen with the characters. The sad situation with Suzanne and what happened with her in both times and why she is so shy to be with a man again and feeling as though no man would ever want to be with her. Her insecurities that any woman could relate to and possibly be going through. Along with Cody's insecurities that there is hope for anyone no matter their background and what they have been through can find true love and happiness.
I am sure that for Cody in the 1800's it was very difficult for half-bloods to be accepted in either society - Whites or Indians. The descriptions of how life probably was in that Era on both sides how they mistreated each other and the women especially is horrifying. But I respect how real the book was to perhaps how life really was then and how far in our society we have come since that Era.
This book was intense, and opened your eyes to a life I never think about. The true bond and love conquers all is refreshing to those that may still be looking for their own love in life. I would say a must read for those that enjoy a true Drama - Romance.
