Audiobooks [dot] com is a site that allows users to stream an audiobook to a device. I went ahead and tried out the site, and the free trial period.

Audiobooks [dot] com works on a simple premise. Pay a monthly fee ($14.95 at the time of this review), and you can listen to any audiobook that they have. There is an option to get additional credits, and this allows you to grab an additional book, but the basic premise is pay per month and get a book per month.

Registration was simple. I had a frantic moment where I did see a deduction on my credit card (as you have to put in credit card details to register). I contacted their support staff and I was quickly helped. It turns out they push through a "pre-authorisation" that is "immediately voided". This was correct, the amount was removed from my card, and while I would have liked to know beforehand that they would do this, I cannot blame them. Bonus points for the quick response from the support staff.

So I started the search for an audiobook to try out. The website is well designed, and has some nice features to lead you from book to book if you are browsing. This was a pleasant feature, I enjoy looking at a book I have loved in the past and then being recommended another, similar book or four. The selection is still a bit limited, especially in the sci-fi and fantasy realm that I prefer, but they are expanding.

The mobile application that allows you to stream the book was also simple to obtain, easy to navigate and it worked.

I will not go into the actual book that I grabbed, as this is a review of the service itself.

Overall I will give the entire site a 3 out of 4 stars.

There is nothing at all wrong with the site, the experience or the support. The only downfall of the site at the moment, is the variety of books available.

You can get exactly the same service, at the same price from their big competitor (whom I won't mention here by name), except they have a bigger selection. So what would entice somebody to use Audiobooks [dot] com instead of another service? Unfortunately, nothing.

They have a great service, but they aren't the first, and they aren't better than the rest. If you have tried the other services available and you are looking for somebody else, I can recommend them, but I personally will rather use another service with a bigger database.
