[Following is a volunteer review of "Always Strive to Be a Better You" by Pete Hall.]
What can be commented on the statement, 'We are greyhounds.'? You can get the perfect answer to this in the book Always Strive to Be a Better You by Pete Hall. The author has nicely explained the logic behind this observation; mentioning the 'rabbits we pursue.' Pete has created this book by incorporating the interviews of seven 'extraordinarily ordinary' personalities. These people are mental stalwarts with extraordinary experience, knowledge, and intelligence. Every one of them possesses 'something with more substance, greater purpose, and more influence. Something significant, fulfilling, joyous, and connected.' You will be very happy to meet these heroes and heroines! In this book, you can get the best explanation of the mind-body-spirit triad and how one of these often impacts the others. You will also get a perfect way to find inner peace and increased health. This book gives a very simple but precious message, 'Do what you love. Love what you do.'
Pete Hall has divided his write-up into four tenets- Know thyself, Work for love, Let your light shine, and Rule the day. These tenets include thirteen key learnings like 'Clean your mirror, Strengthen your core, Seek out your antelopes, Behold the cardinal, Stay out of the cornfield, Let it be this time, Embrace disequilibrium . . . and then reframe it, Be there, Rise, and Put your feet on the floor—it’s the only way to soar.' In these key learning chapters, the author has presented different learning points based on the life strategies, and concepts of seven special characters of the book. Here we find a way to truly examine ourselves at the core level. The concepts like knowing and strengthening your core, avoiding confusion, letting go of difficult or unexpected situations, remaining energetic, being always present at the task, working with full confidence, and eliminating fear are all very well explained. Also, the book gives you the recipe of 'just keep going, no matter what you’re facing and working through it, strategically, intentionally, relentlessly, energetically.' The last key learning 'Put your feet on the floor' is characterized by the inclusion of an excellent topic of 'time management.'
The first of the many positive aspects of the book is
that I found the writing of the book, splendidly brilliant and practically magnificent! Pete has used his
whole intelligence and mighty power to write this book. I believe that the effectiveness of the book depends upon the degree of the writing skill and style of the writer. I found both these to be exceptional in this book. A very high level of intellect or brain power is required; to observe, study, confirm, and reproduce the brilliance of any extraordinarily ordinary personality. Author Pete Hall has done that job superbly. The idea and use of the "Pause and reflect:" break is fantastic and fruitful. The book shows us how 'our attitude determines our altitude, how our mindset and mental approach can elevate us to greater accomplishments, a heightened sense of being, and a clearer idea of the path to joy, happiness, and success . . .. whatever rabbits we each, individually, pursue.' The author has nicely shared all the wisdom acquired by himself and his living characters with readers to achieve change and growth in all aspects of life: personal, professional, and spiritual. I liked the metaphors like 'all live in the cabin of our mind, with an important roommate: our inner monologue.' I also liked the definition of our physical core given as the muscles that surround and connect our torso, helping to protect and align the spine.
I didn't find any negative aspects in this book. However, I feel that the conversational part of the subject characters could have been reduced.
The editing of the book is professional and exceptional. Considering the positive aspects stated above and appreciating the skillful and brilliant writing, I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars.
I Recommend this book to all readers including
men as well as women and business people as well as people in the service. I am quite confident that the people willing to improve their overall performance and to live a happy, virtuous, good life will benefit the most from this book.
