Will You Talk to Me? by Margie Carstens is an enjoyable children's book with beautiful illustrations published in 2022.

The book follows an inquisitive young girl who sometimes gets bullied and feels like she doesn't belong. While looking out the window, she notices a hummingbird. She admires the confidence of one of life's tiniest creatures and strikes up a conversation to learn more about it. This conversation leads her to understand her self-worth and that happiness comes from within. She recognizes that every creature, from the smallest hummingbird to the largest whale in the ocean, is unique and has inherent value.

I believe that it's important for people of all ages to be reminded of the main message of the book from time to time. Its message is a crucial reminder to be kind, while also reminding the reader that every individual is unique and special. Sometimes, the qualities we might dislike about ourselves are the very ones that make us stand out and shine. The book encourages us to embrace our differences instead of altering ourselves to fit in.

There are many things I like about this book, and I give it a full five out of five stars as there are no major errors! I found the main character to be relatable, as I love animals, and as a child, I frequently had conversations with them. While none of them talked back, I feel I learned a lot of important lessons from the animals in my life. I also thought it was clever to reinforce the message with the acknowledgments. One last thing I enjoyed about the book was the use of colorful images to capture children's attention.

It is truly a beautiful book, and I would recommend this book to children under 12. Although this book is intended for children, I found it enjoyable to read. I can see myself reading this book to any hypothetical children I may have. If you are a teacher or the parent of an anxious child, I strongly recommend picking up this book. It was well worth the read!
