Before I even get into the review, I wanted to let you the reader know that I have had more fun going to the dentist then reading this book. It was just not my cup of tea whatsoever. That does not mean that you should not read it. It was just not up my alley. This was a very long two hundred pages. I give this book 2 out of 4 stars.

The book is Gates to Tangier by Mois Benarroch. It is translated into Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Hebrew, Arabic and English. It covers the struggle of a family that did not know they had a half brother anywhere. They are tasked to find him. The books starts off in a lawyer’s office. The father of a Benzimra Family dies. That is when they find out about the other child. In order to get their inheritance they need to find him.

Throughout the book, each family member is on their own personal journey through this book. The layout is almost like The Game of Thrones. Each chapter is in an individual point of view of how things happened. It took me a minute to be able to pick up what was going on. All of the children go on the journey together minus the one that is pregnant that could not fly due to her situation. They come from Jerusalem, Madrid, New York and Paris.

It shows us that just because you are different does not mean anything. You get to see the conflict throughout the book of various religions and cultures. It is hard to fathom that discrimination is still going on but it is. This book shows you that. I just could not get into it. I am young and have seen all the terrorism and conflicts that have happened since 1993. I just could not bring myself to relate to this book. That is normally what keeps me intrigued.

I personally would not recommend this book to anyone but that is just me. It felt like it took me forever to read it. I reviewed this for the online book club that I am part of. I really wish that I would not have agreed to read it because it was sub-par to me. I hope this review helps you out somewhat. I know that if it was not for the book club I am in, I would have easily passed this book over without a second thought.
