Are You Love Smart or Love Stupid by Dr Rachel Sims

“Love is a two-way street constantly under construction.” - Carroll Bryant
Are You Love Smart or Love Stupid by Dr Rachel Sims is a brilliant exploration of the impact of social media and dating apps on relationships. Most often we complicate our relationships by getting biased and jealous when we watch others’ fanciful posts on social media and start comparing our lives expecting things that are not real. The author skillfully investigates the ways by which our conceits regarding romantic love are shaped and ballooned. The author through her realistic and professional pen leads us to reevaluate our approach to love and relationship.

She breaks the myths regulating our age-old conceptions regarding life partners or soulmates or married life. She cites examples through stories and characters so that we can relate to them. As a Professional Licensed Counselor specializing in marriage, relationships, and individual therapy, Dr Rachel Sims has done wonders in this book as she provides a compelling mélange of research findings and real-life incidents through her narrative.

As she breaks the myths and misconceptions, she bolsters her ideas with balanced perspectives. She not merely criticizes our immaturity in copying and defining our love lives in respect of some preconceived impulses but also gives constructive guidance on navigating the challenges that we face in our relationships. She takes instances from everyday life and people who fall in love under certain myth-making halos and then become the victims of their own crippled notions of love. I love how the author weaves her stories drawing her characters from variegated ways of life. I can relate to them.
Most often we ignore the simple rules of love like being available for each other. It is more practical and useful than booking a fabulous vacation one cannot afford. We need to connect to our partners instead of our smartphones at the end of the day. Like a wise counsellor, the book compels us to face the real definition of love without putting any superficial coating on it.

Many of these myths broke my heart as I believed in them so much. Any way what breaks, breaks for good. After reading the book I feel she has debunked all the myths about love, dating, and marriage. And there is nothing to clutch in. So, start afresh. There is no one-line definition of love and relationship. It differs every moment with every single person. To cultivate genuine connection there is no need to flip the book of guidance or hear others' advice but to connect effectively with our partners.
The book is a real gem for all of us as love and relationships are part of our existence. So, pick the book guys. We need it. The checklists or critical points as well as the myths index at the end of the book summarize everything that the author has penned down throughout the book. There is not a single typo to mention as the editing is highly professional. The book can easily demand 5 out of 5 with all its charismatic attributions.
