[Following is a volunteer review of "The Elephant(s) in the Room" by Denny Laake and Monica Laake Beavers.]
The ever-confident Sammy the Weasel (aka STW!) and his loyal canine companion, Kramer, find themselves embroiled in a new mystery when Kramer suspects there might be elephants in the house! With trunks crashing and peanuts mysteriously disappearing, Sammy dons his detective hat and leads the investigation, encountering silly situations, quirky characters, and plenty of laughs along the way.
The story begins when Kramer feels something strange is happening. Walls make noise, floors shake and things like chairs move without reason. Kramer is sure there are big elephants around, so he gets Sammy to look into it. Sammy, who calls himself the "Super Terrific Weasel" (STW), jumps into solving a mystery. He leads a funny chase for clues around the house. The book introduces new characters like Mrs. Miggins, the eccentric house sitter, and a cast of quirky animal neighbors, adding to the whimsical atmosphere. The bond between Sammy and Kramer is heartwarming and relatable, showcasing the importance of loyalty and companionship. The story encourages critical thinking and deduction skills as Sammy unravels the elephant mystery.
I give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. Hidden in the story are little life lessons about friendship, bravery and dealing with fear. Sammy's first fear of the unknown is like what kids feel. His development while exploring a mystery softly pushes them to do it too. The book also praises the happiness of being curious and how important it is to use your imagination to fix issues. The writing is quick and funny, filled with fun word games and Sammy's special ways of thinking like a weasel. The editing is great and for sure, there's nothing to dislike. I really liked the whole book.
"The Elephant(s) in the Room: Another Sammy the Weasel Story" is a charming and entertaining book for young children. With its lovable characters, engaging mystery, and subtle life lessons, it's sure to become a favorite for bedtime reading or independent exploration. The story is short and sweet, perfect for a quick read or bedtime adventure for young readers. The book explores themes of friendship, curiosity, and the joy of imagination. It encourages children to embrace their adventurous spirit and face challenges with a playful attitude.
