Review of Spiker the Jumping Spider Learns about Joy
Spiker is a jumping spider who is friends with a cricket named Crispin. Both of them are learning the meaning of the word joy. And so, they have decided to try and be glad and happy with one new thing every day. Each of them is good at something the other cannot do. By helping one another, Spiker and Crispin are determined to be glad of things happening around them rather than being sad. Spiker the Jumping Spider Learns about Joy by J. M. Ashmore is a joyful children’s book that teaches kids to be helpful and happy, irrespective of unpleasant things happening around them.
The book is a quick read. It is ideal for kids just beginning to read. The language is simple and easy to understand. What I liked the most about the book was that the author used simple vocabulary while delivering a strong and relevant message. I also loved the illustrations in the book. This will help kids understand the story visually.
I had no complaints about the book. Ashmore has added some Q&As at the end of the book that will help parents know how well the kids have understood the story and the message in it. The author has also provided facts about jumping spiders and crickets in simple language.
I gladly rate the book 5 out of 5 stars. The book is professionally edited. There were no grammatical issues.
I recommend the book to young kids beginning preschool. This book has a powerful message. Parents and grandparents can build on the examples provided in this book to help kids understand how they can choose to be happy instead of sulking every time they don’t get what they demand. Kids will also learn how beautiful it is to help people and build healthy relationships.
