Flaherty's Crossing by Kaylin McFarren.

A beautifully written powerful novel about loss, love, marriage and forgiveness. McFarren clearly wants her readers to understand the power of forgiveness and love. She showed in Kate's case that marriage is not perfect and there are many obstacles in life that lead you down paths that only you can choose which one to take. She proves that the struggles of dealing with loss and guilt are extremely hard when you feel like you can't trust a single person but yourself when you are constantly shown nothing but deceit. There is always light at the end of a tunnel no matter what you feel there is always someone there to help you pick up the pieces and give you the opportunity to love, trust and learn to forgive again.

Kate Flaherty has certainly had her fair share of dealing with loss in her life. She's a passionate artist who comes to find herself sitting at her fathers deathbed only to be wondering what she should do. She not only had to deal with the death of her mother at a young age she is now having to relive the loss of a parent again but she has so much anger towards him that she is unsure where to begin.

On top of her fathers death she was struggling herself within her marriage to Drew. In Kate's desperate need to forgive her father she comes to learn some things about her father she never knew and she's starting to see how much love she feels towards the many people in her life that it helps her to realize she has to forgive herself first.

Flaherty's Crossing may be a work of fiction but it connects to so many people on an emotionally mental level when it comes to love, forgiveness and marriage. I feel that McFarren is connected to this novel by reflecting her own experiences with tragedies in her life and felt the need to let her readers understand the power of forgiveness. I am a happily married woman and it's not perfect, it's flawed and that's what makes it all the more worthwhile. Kate and Drew's marriage prove it's very challenging and there are definitely going to be hard times but a lot of good as well.

I give this book a 4 out of 4 because I feel connected to the characters on a deep level as well with the author. It is a perfect book for those who are feeling alone and lost when dealing with the loss of a loved one and a marriage that seems like it's falling apart. The beginning of happiness starts with you and this novel shows that through all the sorrow and heartache there is a bright happy future waiting that you have to grasp for yourself and have faith for the best. I would recommend this book to anyone but forewarning it's emotional and you may shed some tears.
