Solaris seethes is a unique science fiction book. It’s written in third person through the viewpoint of the main character, Rynah. The story begins on a planet that survives only by the special frequencies of a legendary data crystal. When the crystal is stolen, chaos reigns as the planet rapidly burns from the inside. Rynah miraculously flees the erupting planet with just her life and an old ship. The ship was programmed with a rare artificial intelligence and compels Rynah into following an old legend on a quest to save the universe. The book follows Rynah and her team-members as they each use their personal strengths to prevent their enemy from obtaining the powerful data crystals.
The themes of Solaris Seethes are unification and social consciousness. The book hints that it's important to look past one's own problems in order to solve the bigger issue by learning to get along and work with a team. The main character acts selfish in the beginning, but progresses throughout the story as she realizes that she has the unique ability to fight against an evil threatening her universe. As the story progresses, the characters, too, develop. Although they come from diverse backgrounds, the team comes together beautifully, working and getting along with each other as if they'd always known each other.
When the book starts the characters are not depicted well, the personalities are pretty cliché, and the descriptions of their thoughts, actions, and speech are forced and somewhat lifeless. The difficulty to connect to the characters makes it hard to relate to the book. The characters’ personalities are interesting, but it’s hard to really get to know them. Also, the prose in Solaris Seethes is pretty simple; it gets the point of the story across but lacks feeling. This causes the characters to feel stilted and unreal.
However, the plot of this story is pretty unique, impressively so, since science fiction works often have very similar story lines. The plot direction is fascinating as it illustrates both the adventure and suspense experienced by the characters, and, therefore, the reader. The author does a good job at describing the action- and there is a lot of it. I like stories that are always moving along, so I really appreciated the fast pace of Solaris Seethes. The story just kept twisting in unexpected ways.
I rate Solaris Seethes 3 out of 4. It is an interesting story with good characters, however, the characters could be depicted much better than they are. Aside from that, there are a few grammatical mistakes in the book and some awkward wording. The mistakes aren't big or obvious so it wasn't too bothersome to read. The book has a good story-line and I would recommend it for people who enjoy fast-paced suspense.
