The book Health, Tips, Myths and Tricks A Physicians Advise by Morton E Tavel M.D. is a book I would recommend everyone read. I rate this book a 4 out of 4.
Morton E Tavel M.D. wrote other books also such as; Snake Oil Is Alive And Well: The Clash between Myths and Reality and also Hell in the Heavens The Saga of a WW2 Bomber Pilot. These books were all published by Brighton Publishing LLC Mesa Arizona. Dr. Tavel M.D. worked as a specialist in internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases.
Health, Tips, Myths and Tricks A Physicians Advise by Morton E Tavel M.D. is set up as a reference book but is written as if you were personally talking with the doctor and getting his honest, educated advise for your specific ailment. Each chapter is short and to the point. Background research and supporting facts are all referenced and sited. There are 99 such referenced items at the end of the book.
This instructive book may be helpful in making healthy decisions for yourself however it may also cause heartache when family and friends do not believe the same way and they continue to live against such sound advise. I suggest this book would be a thoughtful gift.
Health, Tips, Myths and Tricks A Physicians Advise by Morton E Tavel M.D. differs from a medical reference book because it is written with advise and paired with facts. It contains practical application suggestions so you can be well educated to be a better and healthier you!
Browsing the 62 chapters in this book tells you how extensive the subject matter is. Chapter one may be the most commonly used chapter. It is called Aids to Loosing Weight: Some Effective, Some Useless, Some Dangerous. While reading this chapter a friend of mine asked for advise on weight loss through a public format. The responses from friends were all over the place and mostly opinionated and consequently "some were effective, some useless, and some dangerous". Reading Chapter one put my mind at ease that I had not given bad advise. And it also relieved some pressure to purchase the latest weight loss drug as my friend later did.
Many chapters involve food in some way. These chapters cover subjects from colds to water quality. The amount of writing about the food we eat show how important it is. He covers the importance of potassium and Olive Oil. Also more shocking subjects like arsenic (in Chapter nineteen) may take you by surprise, as well as artificial sweeteners (in Chapter twenty-two).
I enjoyed this book because it was definitely not a waste of my time. Each chapter effects me in some way, if not personally then by close friends and family.
I am amazed at how things I previously thought had nothing to do with something else could directly affect each other. Chapter 29 Sleep Nice or Pay the Price is a prime example of this. Cancer and Cardiovascular are words included in Chapter 29 when concluding the effects of sleep deprivation.
Beware of publications that try to convince you of something while ignoring the competing issues. This book addresses the studies that made the myths and continues from there to inform the reader why that was an inaccurate scientifically lacking experiment. For example Chapter 33 Belief in Conspiracy Theories About Health begins in this way.
In conclusion Dr. Tavel states that he hopes to enlighten us. I believe he has done just that and taught us well with this book.
