For the love of Suzanne by Kristy Hudeck-Ashwill is a drama with a romance and a couple of erotic scenes. The book opens with a couple in the throes of a disagreement. The couple had married young,as high school sweethearts, and life has not turned out as they planned. After burying her husband Suzanne tries to get on with life and making the best for herself and her unborn child.
Due to circumstances beyond her control,Suzanne is thrown into another time to face an uncertain life. She meets Cody, an half white, half American Indian man from the 1800s who has problems of his own. From the time they meet, however, there is a spark that cannot be quenched. She moves from one abusive situation to another, trying to make her way back home. Cody becomes her hero as he tries to take her back to where she came from. They share a love and a connection neither thought they would ever find.
Cody was educated in the "white mans world" because he was not accepted by his Indian family. After his father died he was sent to one of the experimental schools to learn and then returned to his people as an agent to try to help them communicate with the "white world". Suzanne was supposed to be off limits for him because she was a white woman.
The book is an easy read, it kept me in suspense during the time I was reading. It was easy to follow and kept me interested in the two main characters, Suzanne and Colby. There was however one part of the story that seemed to be incomplete. The women Cody rescued from the Indians were not found in the story and that
was left a little open ended. The ending of the book also left a little to be desired as it seemed to lack the continuity for flow from one time period to another.
I would give this book 3 out of 4 stars. I gave it three stars because although I would not read it again I would suggest it to others as a good read. I didn't give it a 2 because it was complete for the most part and followed a storyline. I would suggest that the book be read by mature audiences due to the erotic scenes.
I felt that the author used her knowledge of the area she lived to bring the Native American angle of her book believable. The imagery she used to describe the terrain and the weather made you feel as if you were there.
