[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
Galen's realization of a promising future dawned upon him when he discovered his estranged uncle's desire to have him in Voulhire. Having endured a life filled with sorrow in his previous kingdom, he embarked on the journey, only to find his uncle had passed away before his arrival. Taking charge of his uncle's business, Galen gained recognition among the residents of Magnum Caelum. Guided by Rowan, he familiarized himself with the customs of the people. The pivotal role Galen will play in the Voulhire kingdom unfolds in this book, inviting readers to delve into the intriguing narrative.
The characters in the story contribute to its depth with their contrasting attributes. Rowan's rough language and impolite demeanor don't cast him as standoffish; instead, they add an intriguing layer to his character. Galen Bray's humility, Lord Eldus's sense of duty, Rowan's outspoken nature, and Midius Maido's cunning and strategic mind all seamlessly blend, creating a realistic and believable narrative. Matthew Tysz's skill in worldbuilding is evident as he weaves a compelling tale of the fictional kingdom, detailing its history, geography, and inhabitants with proficiency.
The author skillfully incorporated clues into the descriptive writing, enhancing the intrigue and mystery within the story. While not a fast-paced narrative, it successfully maintains suspense, enticing readers to delve into the next book in the series. Themes of betrayal, fear, revenge, and friendship are prevalent throughout this novel.
Nonetheless, within the pages of the book "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies," there is a segment featuring language that could be deemed offensive in the context of religious matters. This particular section may elicit strong reactions from readers due to its explicit content and potentially provocative nature, emphasizing the need for caution among those who might find such expressions sensitive or objectionable.
This won't affect the rating of the book. The book was exceptionally edited too. I would give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book to readers who appreciate intricate character dynamics, enjoy a blend of suspense and mystery, and are open to thought-provoking discussions on religious themes. However, caution is advised for those sensitive to explicit language in the context of religious matters.
