Escape (Tip of the Spear Book One) is a fast-paced romantic thriller set mostly in present day Iran and Israel.

Layla is an American college student on holiday with her Saudi boyfriend. Cyrus is a dedicated spy who has devoted his life to ending the threat of a nuclearized Iran. Even though two people could not be more different than Layla and Cyrus, they both experience an unexplainable magnetism to the other from the first moment they met. Cyrus receives two sets of orders. One is to seduce Layla and extract information from her to determine if she will be useful to the government of Iran. The other is to protect her and get her out of Iran to the safety of Israel. Cyrus knows his life and his life's work are in jeopardy. He knows his life depends on Layla as much as her life depends on him.

Both of the main characters experienced significant character development during their fight to get to safety. Layla was a damsel in distress who evolved into a strong, confident woman. Cyrus was a cold, disciplined warrior who, through Layla, was able to let down his walls and accept love into his life.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The first few chapters introduced the characters and set the stage in a way that pulls the reader into the story, making it hard to put the book down. I like the organizational elements the author used including identifying the location at the beginning of each chapter and using italicized text to convey thoughts that were not spoken aloud, only to the reader. I also really liked that neither of the main characters were unfaithful as this would have taken away from the purity of their love.

Escape is a romantic novel with a fair amount of graphic sexual content. It is definitely intended for mature readers who are not offended by adult content. That being said, this novel offers far more than steamy love scenes. It offers well developed characters who evolve throughout the story and a solid, believable storyline. It is clear that a considerable amount of research went into developing this novel.

I didn't find any grammatical or spelling errors (which can be a huge distraction) and the sentences and paragraphs flowed together nicely. I enjoyed Escape (Tip of the Spear Book One) and look forward to reading the next book in the series when it becomes available.
