Solaris Seethes by Janet McNulty is a Science Fiction tale taking place throughout space and time, traveling to many distant planet and experiencing many different situations. Our characters rely entirely on their wits and strengths to fulfill an ancient prophecy to save the universe.

Solaris Seethes is an out of this world, no out of this galaxy story about five people whose differences become their strengths. In this tale, we meet Rynah who fights for the survival of her planet and her people by bringing together four Earthlings from different times and places to fulfill a prophecy. Solaris, the ship, brings an Ancient Roman, a Viking, a modern girl, and a futuristic inventor to help Rynah with her journey through space. To complete their mission, just like in our own lives, Rynah must confront her past and the overwhelming feelings they invoke to make room for the future.

Solaris is our lovable, but attitude providing, time-traveling, doesn’t take any lip spaceship. She provides all our characters with much needed advice at the most appropriate times when it’s necessary and a figurative shoulder to cry on when it proves to be extraordinary. Though, she also gets into it with them when they are being particularly stubborn. Now this story isn’t just about overcoming their distinctions to become the team they are meant to be, there’s also pirates, space fights, and betrayal at the deepest level.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was brilliantly written and extremely descriptive. Through the whole story, I felt as if I was there with them, through the battles, sharing the escapades, living through their fear and adrenaline as we explored the deepest, darkest parts of space. Ms. McNulty described not just the physicality of the settings and characters, but also the emotional distress that our characters go through while figuring out how to work together. I could not put down my phone until I was done. I will be getting the next one to see how Rynah and the group continue to fight and fulfill the prophecy.

I give this book 3 out of 4 stars. It is a very good read and will draw you in for every moment that you have it open. I enjoy many books and movies along this line of story. Solaris Seethes reminded me very much of the movie Guardians of the Galaxy (which I have probably watched too many times), so as I was reading this, I kept imagining similar characters and how they could move past what they have always done or believed to fight for the better.
