The Bonding by Imogen Keeper, is a mature Drama/Romance novel about a Queen-designate who is forced into space with ninety-nine other people from her planet. They left their home planet, Triannon, in hopes of fleeing from another species who threatens their homes and their lives. Princess Nissa is found nearly 500 years after they escaped to space within their pods. She is ill after being in the small enclosure and needs help from the Argenti warrior, Tam, who saved her.
First, I would like to start off by saying if you don’t like a lot of crude language or sexual content, this book is definitely not for you. I don’t mind it, so I tried the book out. I was unpleasantly surprised with how much lacking there was of story and how much the author chose to focus on the sexual part of the main characters. There were times where they referred to the heroine as “addicted”.
Second, the story itself was kind of a let down. It seems that The Bonding is the first book in the Tribe Warriors Series. I will not be reading the next books because I could not find anything to latch onto. I was stuck trying to follow a shallow storyline that was obvious and cluttered with sex. . The grammar and spelling was fine and no noticeable errors. There were odd choices for foods/objects though. For example, a drink they had was called “effoc”, which is just coffee backwards. They also had a weapon called “rezal blaster”, which is lazer blaster. While having said that, I would not be opposed to reading another book from a different series by the same author
Third, the book seemed to drag on. It seemed like the author had added mini puffs of drama just to fill in space. I think that is why the story didn’t seem to really go anywhere, the story itself just was too short for the 210 pages it took up. There was little to no character development and I had a hard time connecting with any of the characters. To me they were not dynamic enough, and too many romance novel stereotypes.
Lastly, I give this book 2 out of 4 stars. The story itself needed more content, but I gave it a two because the spelling and grammar was nice. I think Imogen Keeper definitely has room to improve, and I wouldn’t be opposed to trying another one of her books. I would recommend this book to people who aren’t wanting to get invested into a series. I would also recommend this book to people who are looking to fill a book goal, as it is a pretty fast book to finish.
