The universe delivered a clear message, urging me to embark on this literary journey. It sent unmistakable signs, assuring me that the material within the pages would enlighten my soul and fuel my imagination. This cosmic guidance solidified my belief that imagination transcends societal norms - it's not a mere concept, but rather evidence of undiscovered worlds in the vast universe. Matthew, in his exploration of the seemingly "imaginary" or what the world terms as "fiction," unveils truths that contribute to our self-awareness. His work offers a unique opportunity to delve into uncharted realms, conquer uncertainties, and unravel the potent force of solitude within this adventurous spiritual thriller.

Truth be told, I'm not entirely accustomed to e-books yet, I prefer the tactile experience of a physical copy. However, "We are Voulhire" defied my expectations, keeping me glued to the screen within my allocated daily reading time - a welcomed challenge.

In the tapestry of this tale, a mage harboring malevolent intentions towards the physical realm unravels a saga of disaster and tragedy. This mage named Meldorath poses a grave threat, drawing the attention and concern of King Wilhelm. In response, the king, who once considered the mage a close friend and inspiring general, opts for a cunning scheme. He sentences the mage to exile on an island, all the while deceiving his people by pretending the mage met his end.

The narrative focal point shifts to Galen, the protagonist, who flees the ongoing war within the land of the princes - a conflict that has persisted since his birth. Infused with unwavering determination, Galen secures passage on a ship bound for Voulhire, lured by the inheritance left to him by his great uncle. After a week at sea, he arrives, only to find his adventure in this unexplored realm beginning. As he unfurls his wings, metaphorically speaking, he delves into the enchanting magic that defines this unique kingdom, oblivious to the lurking dangers.

Meanwhile, responding to the king's call, a trusted ally, Lord Eldus, is dispatched to salvage and rebuild the small town of Hillport - a community of fishermen left reeling from the terror instigated by Meldorath, the malevolent mage. However, Lord Eldus encounters failure in his mission, leaving the king in a state of profound shock. The repercussions of Meldorath's actions cast a long shadow, setting the stage for the unfolding drama to come......

This marks my first complete review of a book, a departure from my usual focus on music reviews as a music publisher. Breaking out of my comfort zone was needed. Just as with music, the beginning is paramount, and the opening of this book was nothing short of mind-blowing. As a movie enthusiast, the narrative unfolded vividly in my mind - characters from the prologue, Meldorath's blood bed, the takeover - all cinematic, captivating my imagination, here comes Galen, intro to the land of the princes. The author's adept storytelling structure seamlessly transitioned from one character to another, a surprising, yet effective play that kept me engaged, pondering the narrative until I eventually drifted off to sleep each night, reassured that this was just the first of many captivating tales.

Comparisons to iconic works like The Hunger Games, Lord of the Rings, and perhaps even Harry Potter surfaced in my mind. The prospect of a movie adaptation seemed tantalizing - after all, the author writes, "Curiosity is a gift." The author's dedication to the craft and the compelling storyline left little room for criticism. The unexpected shifts between characters added an intriguing layer to the narrative, keeping me guessing.

Each character contributes a unique story, intricately woven into the tapestry of the complete narrative. It's akin to piecing together a puzzle, and the absence of traditional chapters doesn't hinder the experience; instead, it adds a layer of complexity. The chapters, though lengthy, offer distinct depths of understanding, contributing to the overall richness of the storytelling.

I give this book a perfect 5/5 rating. It stands out as an exceptionally well-crafted piece, boasting meticulous editing and a narratively rich storyline that is thoroughly enjoyable. I wholeheartedly recommend this title to those in search of adventure and a profound appreciation for the enigmatic. However, if you find yourself lacking in imagination and creativity, this might not be the ideal choice for you, as the book aptly reminds us, "Our body and soul find healthy competition with the mind."

The author's commitment to his words, evident in quotes like "Mastery requires intimacy—intimacy requires passion," resonated throughout the book. His passion permeated the pages, captivating and hooking the reader. In the journey toward perfection, each step seamlessly joined the next. I quote from the book again “Each step must join the other, in the next step towards perfection”.

Humor, expertly interwoven with the thrilling tale, was a delightful surprise. Character like "Rowan" injected levity into the story, offering moments of laughter to balance the suspense.

What lies ahead? Anticipation builds for the forthcoming books, envisioning Galen and Marchus as the heroes destined to conquer Meldorath and dismantle his reign of terror. The franchise holds the promise of continued excitement, and I eagerly await the next chapter in this gripping saga.
