[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
Voulhire, steeped in spirituality, science, and magic, is the promised world of advanced knowledge and civilization. Galen Bray is given the opportunity of a lifetime to leave behind his war-torn homeland while simultaneously benefiting from Voulhire at its golden age.
In this introductory novel of the series, we ride along with Bray on his adventure, discovering this world of advanced knowledge and civilization, as well as getting an insight into the history of this wealthy kingdom.
As wonderful as Voulhire is, we learn that not every citizen has good intentions; others seek to use this advanced knowledge to rule this world and other worlds.
Packed with promise and gratitude that pulls at your heart's strings, this novel has moments that will have your heart racing with action and your head pounding with frustration.
Despite the use of profanity and sexual language, this is not a spicy novel. There are also moments of comic relief that are seamlessly incorporated.
Well-written, with great descriptive language, Matthew Tysz knows how to capture and retain the reader's interest. His own life and interpersonal experiences emerge throughout the work, trapping the reader even farther in this imagined realm.
On top of having remarkably easy character and location names, the book includes a glossary of terminology and place names at the back to assist the reader.
I rate this novel 5 out of 5 because it sucked me into its own world and held me there throughout my reading. Well done to the team that edited the novel as I did not find any spelling or grammar errors that would have distracted me from my adventure.
I recommend this book as a great read to all fantasy fans and those who would like to get into the genre.
I cannot wait to get into the rest of the series!
