Raven’s Peak, first book in World on Fire series, is a supernatural horror type of fiction written by Lincoln Cole. Having great plot with well-developed characters, the writer do created an engaging novel that will definitely keep you at the edge of your seat. The story focuses on the battle of the two main characters to save humanity against evil.

Abigail Dressler, a demon Hunter bound to track down the devil who took her father-like mentor (Arthur Vangeest), asked by the Council to look into some strange activity happening in formerly quiet small town. Along with her, was Haatim Arison who knows nothing about the work of his own father and to the occurrences of the supernatural. Due to his ignorance, Abigail forced to bring Haatim along with her to protect him for his father and from the Ninth Circle.

Together with Haatim, Abigail started her investigation in the mysterious town and discovered familiar places she thought she had ever been before. Lost memories restored back and realized that the place she was in was the place where Arthur risked his life to save her. Abigail thrown and fought again in a town where everything started, a town called Raven’s Peak.

The book moves very quickly, but there are also slow chapters that build suspense and keep the story moving, and at the same time, allows the reader to breath for a moment. I think the pacing is just balance, enough to keep the reader engaged and hooked in the story.

I loved how the storyline started as I got carried away by the prologue alone, it gives suspense, thrills, and horror. As I finished reading it and started the first chapter, I was a little deceived. I thought Arthur is the male lead character since it begins with him, it seems like he is considerably important and something part of him is interesting in the story. For me, it’s some kind of unique way to start the storyline because it’s absolutely believable.

Thumbs up to the writer for providing good characters. They are just amazing, especially Abigail who is strong and determined, she is the kind of woman who will be dearly loved by anyone. Even though they are not in a romantic relationship with Haatim, their tandem is still great, they utterly connect and interact to each other by way of very realistic dialogues.

Raven’s Peak is scary but I think it is more disgusting due to memorable gory scenes, it just make me cringe and does not scare me thoroughly, so, I rate this 3 out of 4 stars. However, this novel is still interesting and worth reading, suitable to those who love horror stories. I’m still looking forward for the sequel and I’m excited on where the writer would take the story next.
