Wrong Turn, Right Guy by Haylie B. Fox is a romance about a girl named Teresa who has plans to go to her best friend’s wedding in Italy. She’s having a rough go of life, having lost her job as well. But just when you think things couldn’t get worse for the girl, she meets and falls in love with an Italian gentleman. The story is about Teresa’s self-discovery and whether she thinks she can fall in love or whether she should stay in the pattern she has always been in, and that’s work.
While reviewing Wrong Turn, Right Guy by Haylie B. Fox, I felt off and on about the book as I read through it. I love books, and I read quite a bit. It’s a lighthearted comedy that is easy to read, without any difficult words throughout the book. I love when romance novels are light-hearted because they are a great book that you could bring to the beach and just relax with.
What I loved most about the book was the descriptions of the travels that Teresa had throughout Italy. For someone who has never been to Europe, Italy is one place that I would love to go, and it was great to see the location through Teresa’s eyes because she was truly grateful to be there. While reading the book, you can feel as if you are reading the book through her eyes. She was able to make the characters come alive which is no easy task for any writer.
What I didn’t like about the book, however, was a lot. I was certainly looking for a good summer read, but it was not what I found in the book, and that was disappointing. I only got a few chapters into the book before I wished I had picked something else entirely. I had a hard time relating to Teresa on a positive level. She came off sometimes as rude, as she seemed always to be complaining about something. She is often whiny, and I had a hard time picturing wanting to spend any time with a person like that. How she ever got invited to a wedding is beyond me. She did lose her job early on in the book, so you could understand her being a little off, but her negativity was on a whole new level. She just seemed really immature for someone her age and her rudeness towards just about everyone was off-putting, to say the least. She was not a character that you could sympathize with at all even though she was going through a difficult time.
Another thing I didn’t like about the book was that the author seemed to spell everything out to the reader. That whole “show, don’t tell,” was completely lost in this novel as the author told the reader everything they needed to know which made the book boring at times.
Overall, I thought the book was interesting because of the Italy descriptions, but I would have a hard time recommending it. I did, however, love the cover which was why I chose it in the first place. I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars!
