Raven’s Peak by Lincoln Cole

Abigail is lost, looking for the way to save the only person she considers family, the Reverend. She needs to find a way to bring back the only father and mentor she has known without destroying all he has taught her. Her search for a pathway brings her to Haatim and to Raven’s Peak.

Haatim is lost, looking for his place in the world after the loss of his sister. He returns to the United States to remove himself from his family and grieve. His father is a preacher, devoted to his beliefs. His naivety brings him into a world that has been hidden from him his whole life and to Abigail. Haatim needs to find his faith – can he find faith and his place in this world at Raven’s Peak?

The world is not what it seems. Demons are real and walk among us bringing ciaos and destruction. More negative activity is running rampant in society and fewer soldiers are alive to vanquish the evil. Abigail and Haatim team up as the underdogs to save the world and each other. Abigail is a strong female character that takes charge of her destiny and is a natural leader. She holds steady to her beliefs and will not bend them when tempted with rewards. She is truly a role model to follow and admire.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. The story is unique and held my interest. The characters are troubled and witty. There were a few moments where I laughed out loud! Lincoln Cole brought the story to life with good descriptions of a dystopian world of demons. I was a bit sad that I didn’t learn more about the father figure Abigail was working very hard to save, the Reverend. My first impression of him was very different from my final impression and wish I could understand more.

My favorite part of the story is the bond development between Abigail and Haatim. They develop as individuals and as a pair as the drama draws to a climax. Raven’s Peak is an easy read with a flow that keeps your interest. There are very few typos and grammatical errors to disrupt the flow of reading.

This is the first of a series of books, which could be why the teaser exists regarding the Reverend. The ending sets up the plot for the next book. I would recommend this book to lovers of the mystical dystopian genre.
