Lemoncella Cocktail by Rene Natan rates a 2 out of 4 stars. While this book was enjoyable to read the writing was a bit off with many grammatical errors and even some words left out. The cadence was thrown off and detracted from the overall effect of the book. If these errors are fixed it would help improve the rating but with the errors it’s hard to give more than 2 out of 4 stars.
In the beginning we are introduced to one of the main characters, Patrick Carter, who's a bit down on his luck at the moment. He comes across someone in harms way and intervenes to save a young girl's life. This begins his spiral into an adventure with villains and his ultimate romance. Patrick is a very likable character but the writer interjects plot twists to make the reader wonder if Patrick too is part of the clan out to harm the McCleod family. Along the way Patrick is convinced to help out the detectives in charge which leads him to meet Emy Walker. Emy and Patrick find romance despite Emy's overbearing father who tries to thwart it until he learns Patrick is in fact a hero. It's good to see a happy ending for Patrick and that doing the right thing did pay off for him in the long run. He goes from being down on his luck to having romance, a good job and a bright future.
The detective in charge could also be further developed and possibly lead to a series of books about crimes he solves. He is a very likable fellow and family man. He is able to navigate the political parts of his job as well as the detective work. If the author took more time developing this character and giving more detail about his earlier cases it would also improve the rating of the book.
The plot of the book is fairly easy to follow and doesn't leave the reader guessing or having and "edge of their seat" experience. It's pretty basic case of mistaken identity with a few plot twists to see if Patrick is involved or was he really just at the wrong place at the right time to be a Good Samaritan. It ends with him looking forward to his future and is a bright spot in the book.
Overall the book is 2 out of 4 stars. It's enjoyable to read and it's nice to see the hero with a happy ending. It's a basic crime solver mystery that has potential for further books in a series if the author chooses.
