Farmer Beau’s Farm by Kathleen Geiger is an adorable story that starts when Farmer Beau and his wife, Bamma notice six kittens on their farm. All of the kittens grow up and leave but one, Kailey. Kailey enjoys her life on the farm and then meets Samantha the Bunny. They become best friends and live together in the barn.

They fear that everything will change when they find out that another animal is coming to live at the farm. They worry that they will not get as much attention and that Farmer Beau and Bamma will not love them as much. They fear that the new animal won’t fit in. Samantha bunny and Kailey kitten learn to accept their new friend and realize that there’s plenty of love to go around. All three of them look different, but they all have feelings and want to be loved equally.

I really like the message of Farmer Beau’s Farm, and I think that it is wonderful for children. It teaches inclusion, despite differences, and about being kind to others. It also helps children cope with a different environment and/or another sibling. There is a lot of text in this book compared to some children’s books, but I believe that it is easy enough to understand and doesn’t take very long to read. There is a lot of dialogue between the characters.

I’m personally not a huge fan of the pictures in this book. They are very cartoonish, but I think that I mostly don’t like how computer generated they appear. The focus is definitely the characters, because the background lacks detail. However, the background lacks so much definition that I found it disappointing in numerous pictures. It’s also strange that the farmer and Bamma look completely different to me on different pages. Their facial features look nothing alike straight ahead versus turned to the side. Bamma’s face goes from a grown woman to a young girl. Children may still like the pictures, because they are very colorful. I noticed a couple of editing errors, including word tenses. I noticed at least three of these errors while reading.

I rate Farmer Beau’s Farm 3 out of 4 stars. I really like the story and the way that it is written despite the errors. The pictures are really lacking for me, but the story is interesting and has a good message. My sister seemed to enjoy the book and wanted to know more about what happened to Malissa giraffe after settling in on the farm. Sequel maybe?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Kitkat3! I think it's cute that you shared the story with your sister! I want to say that I think this is the first in a series, but I'm not 100% sure. I was trying to find that out at some point, and couldn't get a definitive answer. Thanks again!
