I rate this book, Escape by Belle Ami, 3 out of 4 stars. This is a beautiful story of two unlikely people falling in love and ultimately saving each other. The heroine and her boyfriend, while on vacation in Dubai, are kidnapped. The boyfriend is ransomed and the heroine is left in prison to meet what fate may will. The hero, a deep-cover Mossad agent, is first tasked by the Iranian deputy director with saving her and learning her secrets by making her fall in love with him and then by Mossad to break his cover and extract the heroine out of Iran or kill her if unable to achieve the mission.
The beginning of the book started out slow for me. As you meet the hero you learn about the multiple facets of his job, his boss, and his non-existent love life. As you meet the heroine you learn about her Jewish roots, her promise to her deceased mother, her Saudi boyfriend, and her father's current job. Once the back story was given the storyline picked up and became extremely interesting and held my attention to the very end.
Our hero has faced difficult decisions as he weighed love of country, love for family, and love for himself. I felt the character development for the hero was written exceptionally well. The heroine is a college student who has been loved and emotionally supported all her life. Her faith and belief in people had never been questioned till the night she was kidnapped. Normally I prefer a very strong heroine who is much more than a pretty face and body but I still appreciated this character and felt the love connection between the two.
The love scenes were organic and flowed well with the story line. However, some of the lines took me out of the story for a moment; “God help me, the red hair is real, and that's the prettiest p**** I've ever seen. S***, there goes my c***”. There were sentences like this sprinkled throughout the book that I felt were unnecessary.
I feel this a great book for someone who loves romance novels, is comfortable with some graphic love scenes, not offended by coarse language, and interested in loosing themselves in a moving story of love that they are unable to put down. This is the first book I've read by Bella Ami, I was impressed and would definitely read another book by her.
