[Following is a volunteer review of "Raven's Peak" by Lincoln Cole.]

Raven’s Peak by Lincoln Cole is one of the best books I have read recently. It grabs you by the hand from the instant you start reading it and throws you into this world of demons and supernatural beings. It is about a young woman named Abigail, who is in search for the man that raised her. She has lost him and is looking for a way to get him back. Along the way, she meets Haatim, and he tries to “help” her throughout the story. The two of them go on an adventure that keeps you on the edge of your seat. There is violence, love, loyalty, action, and plenty of drama throughout the story.

The story starts off with a prologue introducing you to Arthur, and that he is imprisoned of his own free will. He leaves this prison to find the girl that he raised but ends up giving an ultimate sacrifice. The story shifts to five months later where Abigail is looking for Arthur. She runs into Haatim because she is confronting him about following her. She saves his life, and they go on the road together to a place called Raven’s Peak. There is an intermission, and it gives the reader insight as to what is going on in Raven’s Peak. Here they find strange things afoot and go they to investigate. Upon investigation, they are shocked to find there is something big happening in this small town. They both end up hurt and taken by a secret council to be judged. The final scene is a cliffhanger which leaves the reader wanting more.

I loved this book for the simple fact that it brings together many of the elements that I love. Supernatural beings, revenge, action, drama, and a little love mixed up makes a great story for the reader. I loved the Abigail was very loyal to Haatim even though it could cost her, her life. I thought the relationship between them was spot on of for these types of characters and didn’t push the boundary of romance. As a reader, I hoped there would be a love story in the mix, but I understood as a writer why that couldn’t happen.

The main thing that I didn’t like about the book is that there wasn’t enough. It was such a good book that I wanted it to last forever. There is an annoyance I have with Haatim and his ability to be a “man.” He doesn’t even know how to hold a gun, and what to do with it when he is holding it. Abigail herself was annoyed with this. I didn’t like that Haatim is such a wuss when it comes to fighting for his life. He would rather someone protect him than do it himself. I wanted more of him by the end of the book. Even though he shot a gun, it still didn’t redeem him in my eyes. I wanted the character to have a redeeming moment, but he didn’t, and that makes me wonder what the author has planned for this character in a future storyline.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I gave Raven’s Peak this rating because it was so well written and the story arc is consistent. The characters develop throughout the story, even though it may not be the way that the readers want them to. I found one major mistake when reading this story. In Chapter 15 there is a sentence that states, “This one had his sleeves rolled up, and the tattoos covered her arms.” This should have been his arms, not her arms. This mistake was the only major thing I saw wrong with the book. I would recommend that anyone that loves supernatural elements, lots of action, loyalty, and even betrayal should read this book. If you don’t like stories about supernatural beings and has a lot of gore, this book is definitely not for you.

Good review. I appreciated hearing your opinions. I agree Haatim is weak, but I think he almost had to be that way to help us to learn right along with him. It is interesting to think about what else the author has planned for him in future books, though.

Haha. The main thing you didn't like was that there wasn't enough. That's funny. Lucky for you that's just the first book in a three book series. I also read and reviewed this a while back and it was just as you said- gripping from the get go.

Good review! I read this book too. I liked the detailing. I didn't notice that mistake. You are very observant! The only mistake I found was that each first word of every chapter was that is was split like this: 'H aathim'.
