Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks by Morton Tavel is essentially a guide for your health. The book tells you what to do, what not to do, and what you should do about your lifestyle. I am very sure that it will arouse curiosity and a bit of suspicion about things you encounter and do to your health. Tavel uncovers the truth behind everyday health goods and services, including diets and pills, and tells you what really is best for you. For anyone who wants to improve their wellness, seek a better lifestyle or learn more about health in general, this is the book.

The book is divided into three parts - tips, myths, and tricks, hence the name. In the first section, tips, Tavel explains what really is behind foods that we don't normally think about too much including coffee and chocolate, and provides tips on what really is the best way to consume these certain types of foods. In the section titled myths Tavel disproves myths accurately with facts and evidence and will leave you looking at the choices you make about your health in a different way. In the final section Morton Tavel debunks health scams, such as alkaline water and dietary supplements, and makes clear why anyone should avoid them.

Each section has numerous chapters, each a few pages long, describing specific topics under the category, with no specific order. For example, one topic you may read is about gluten-free diets and the one right after may be about bottled water. Because of this, it may not be necessary to read the entire book. A reader can read through the table of contents and choose what to focus on. Many statistics and personal knowledge are used in the book to reinforce arguments. Each chapter ends with a conclusion that effectively summarizes what was just explained.

I have explored basic health and wellness prior reading this book. However, after reading this book, I felt I knew a lot more and built on what I knew before. Some facts made me question what I was originally taught and had me rethink things. The author's writing tone and style had me captivated the entire time; the text just never seemed to bore.

This book is very well written and very easy to understand. The text's information is applicable to everyone and is free of slang or jargon that some may not understand. Although there were some grammar and punctuation errors, it did not impact the overall reading experience. As a result, my rating of this book 4 out of 4 stars.
