My Trip to Adele A.I Alyaseer and R.I. Alyaseer is a story about three different people, Yaser, Elias and Nadia, from different places in the world (Las Vegas, Rome and Amman), who are struggling with gaining control over their lives and finding happiness. What they also have in common is the fact that they all are fans of Adele and have the intention to travel to an Adele-concert held in Verona, Italy. The book describes the processes these people are going through and the memories associated with their individual situations and shows the evolution each character undertakes in order to achieve their personal freedom and happiness. It is a very profound journey to the depths of each character. Each chapter ends with part of the lyrics of a specific Adele song according to its contents.
It called my attention that the stories and the lyrics of songs from Adele are very carefully chosen and complement harmonically. As not particularly an Adele fan, I must say it is aninteresting combination of a story and muscal lyrics, and surprisingly out doesn't make the story cheesy, instead it underlines the message of each chapter.
The story is very well developed, switching between the current situations of its characters and their personal history, including the issues they have to resolve. It contains very profound reflections about the female and male roles in family life and in society, the reflection about religion and how they affect each character and the world they live in, pointing out the importance to be in charge of one's life. All this makes it easy for the reader to submerge into the worlds of these characters, to some extent, understanding their dilemmas and struggles.
The story is very lively written, the manner the facts are described makes it easy for the reader to understand the motivations and internal processes of the characters, as well as the cultural contexts of their environments. As the book is written from the perspective of each of the main characters, Yaser, Elias and Nadia, it gives the story a very personal touch, narrating three different realities, points of view and approaches to resolving their issues.
The length of the book is very adequate, it's not too short nor too long, what means that there are absolutely no slow parts in it. It has been a very interesting read and it's a book that makes the reader think - which it's completely desirable.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars, because it is very well written, shows a good way to express the happenings and internal worlds of the characters.
