Raven’s Peak (World on Fire Book 1) by Lincoln Cole

A small town hidden out in the mountains is harboring a problem. Unknown to the townsfolk, something is lurking that will change their lives. When the people of the town start acting crazy with unexplainable reasons, young Abigail Dressier is called in to uncover the issue and fix the problem. She is asked to quickly finish up her current mission and move out to the town as soon as possible.

While finishing up, she is forced to rescue Haatim Arison from a terrifying fate and discovers he has a family legacy associated with the supernatural. He, unfortunately, knows nothing about this legacy, so Abigail is forced to protect him and take him with her to the town of Raven’s Peak. The two travel to the town and are faced with the dilemma of whether to trust the other with their safety. What happens in this small town when they get there is beyond chaotic, and the two are forced to use what they can to attempt to stop all the evil.

Raven’s Peak is an exciting novel written by author Lincoln Cole. It is book one of the World on Fire Series. It was published in July 2016 and is 219 pages in length.

The story opens with a short Prologue focusing on the start of the chaos that is taking place within Raven’s Peak. It then moves into the main portion of the book focusing on Haatim and Abigail. Haatim’s character was fascinating. He is very down to earth and has recently lost his sister, which has led him to question his faith. Abigail has had a hard life and has accepted the fact that she will forever be fighting evil to maintain the balance between light and dark. The two struggled with trust but break through their barriers and are able to trust each other with their lives.

The story itself has an excellent plot, and the characters are easy to love. It is easy to read and follow making it desirable to a wide range of readers. It did have several gory scenes though, that many may not enjoy.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I really enjoyed following Abi and Haatim as their friendship grew. I also enjoyed the fact that they did not begin a romantic relationship and their friendship stayed completely platonic. I had a difficult time finding something I did not like about this book.

Thanks for your insightful review of this book. I like how you pointed out that the friendship between the two leads characters stays just that, a friendship. Sometimes in books and movies, it seems like couples get paired off when they shouldn't, just for the sake of creating a romance where it's not always needed. So it's nice that this author didn't do that.

Great review. I also read and reviewed this a while back and I liked the friendship between Abigail and Haatim. There were subtle hints that there may be something more in the follow up books but there was no forcing a relationship in an unrealistic way. Thanks
