Raven's Peak by Lincoln Cole is a book of fiction about secret societies and their doings in the world to keep those safe who are unaware of their existence. It takes you on a journey into the life of Abigail and what she has to do to protect the civilians of this world while one of these civilians in turn get dragged into her world. Their lives intertwine in what seems to be a series of coincidence that are in actual fact connected as Abigail's past comes back to haunt her. Now she and Haatim have to face an ancient evil together and come to terms with the situation they find themselves in.
Raven's Peak is a book that many people may relate to in different ways, the characters in the book have many difficult decisions to make and personal issues to deal with. Some of these choices are moral and what they decide to do or have to do in some cases seem doomed to failure but sometimes it's the risk you have to take. Their situation is very unique while at the same time easy to identify with making the book even more immersive.
I am not one of the most fanatical book readers but this book managed to keep me interested throughout the story. Weather by plot twists or simply being very unique I only found one time that I could predict something in the story, the rest of the time I was so curious as to what would happen next. I am also someone who is interested in science and facts thrown into a book, a book that makes you think and tickles your curiosity. This book kept me interested from start to finish. Even though it was not necessarily filled with those things it had a lot of the elements to it. This also makes it easy to read as well as making it more enjoyable for those who prefer a more casual read. The book is very well balanced in these aspects.
Raven's Peak is action packed and can be somewhat gory at times, there are politics involved and a bit of the good old rebelling against the system. Something that might be lacking for some in a book like this is romance though I feel it is by no means needed. In all other aspects of any action packed book like this it manages to ace the scores. Not too much of anything and not too little. The book also has a lot of clarity when it comes to describing things and painting a picture of the situation. There where one or too spots where I was a bit uncertain of the environment but other than that it is very easy to live yourself into the book. There are a few grammatical mistakes but the book is not filled with it.
I rate this book a 4 out of 4. I did consider giving it a 3 though the shortcomings get overshadowed by what makes the book great. To a person only interested in specific genre's or that needs something specific in the book it might get a lower score if it is an element that the book lacks. Taking the book as is in general terms it warrants a score of 4 in my opinion.
With my limited book reading experience I definitely recommend this to anyone who loves books and even to those who hate books but like a good thrilling story about secret societies, the supernatural and people who have to fight their way to survival. I can even see this book becoming a good film in the future.
