In The Bonding by Imogen Keeper, we are introduced to the two main characters, Tam and Nissa. Nissa is a young unwed princess of a tribe known as Triannon. She is a young girl who has no say in her own future. She is to marry a man chosen for her by the people. However, Nissa’s planet is taken over by aliens who give them 3 days to leave before returning and killing a large number of her tribe. The triannon’s are left with no choice but to leave. So, the king makes a decision to launch 100 pods carrying unwed females into space in hope to save the race from extinction, and hopefully, find help for their beloved Triannon. The king, queen, and princess take up three of those pods and the rest are chosen by raffle at random.

Tam is a warrior of a similar Tribe called Argentus. His tribe is very large yet has very few females. Therefore, many of the men in the tribe are not mated to anyone. Women are a nothing but a wonderful dream. However, for Tam, this dream became a reality when he stumbles upon a floating pod in space carrying none other than princess Nissa herself. Unfortunately, when Tam opens the pod he finds a very ill Nissa who is near death. He has the choice to save her or let her die of her illness, but to save her means he will be forever bonded to her.

This is a story bringing two strangers that couldn't be more opposite together, and exploiting the struggles they have to face along their journey due to family, politics, and society. Also, their conflicting inner struggles that the main characters face as they battle themselves trying to figure out a compromise without losing oneself in the process. I watched Nissa’s charter bloom throughout the book. The word-building is delicately detailed and the story crutch is so very twisted yet deliciously entertaining. The romance in the novel was overpowering. From start to finish I couldn't put the book down.

Another thing that I'm sure many will enjoy about this book is the fact that the science fiction part wasn't confusing at all. In fact, after just a few pages I was immersed in this outer space world right alongside the characters. The catch that came along with the cure of the serum was cleverly twisted. It was a catch that aided in capturing my attention and making me want to read further into the story. The dialogue was strong from start to finish.

At no point did I have to pause to figure out what was going on, or where I was which is a problem many people usually face when reading a science fiction novel. However, I adapted easily in this book, Keeper did an outstanding job grounding the reader throughout the book. I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. This book will appeal to anyone who likes a strong angst-filled romance book.
