Health tips, myths and tricks is an informative book by Morton E. Tavel, M.D. that addresses the subject of health from a very broad perspective. It sheds light on all the conflicting information that people have to deal with in an effort to ensure a healthy lifestyle by making healthy choices. The book addresses everything from the pros and cons of different weight loss methods to remedies of common cold and much more giving an all round view by highlighting the false beliefs around each topic and bringing out the truth which is backed by solid facts. At the end of reading this book, unfounded fears will be eliminated after learning that some products that have been viewed as dangerous or unfit are actually good for us while other products believed to be the best for human consumption do not offer as much benefit.
The book has a wealth of information that has been presented in a manner that makes it easy to read and grasp all the contents as the chapters are short and interesting with each chapter addressing a different issue. The conclusion at the end of every chapter summarizes the important points making them easier to grasp.
The author has disputed some of the views that the larger population hold and has backed up his views with solid facts based on research findings from credible sources and reputable organizations thus eliminating any doubts one might have about the information being put forward.
In my view the choice of words in the review whereby other claims are referred to as BS and once in a while as nonsense in the book is unnecessary as with the facts presented in the book, the reader will probably come to this conclusion themselves.
In the section of myths, I feel that the book having covered so much of the issues that affect today’s society, microwaves and the beliefs surrounding their use should be included as they are a common household item.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because it has not been thoroughly edited for instance, the numbering of the “salty six” on page 52 is wanting as it makes it hard to follow. This is a book I believe everyone should have as a healthy lifestyle manual as it will help people make enlightened choices from an informed point of view as it provides answers to questions that people have and information people need but are not aware of regarding different products and the partial information provided about them.
