[Review of "Raven's Peak" by Lincoln Cole.)

This book is aptly named as ravens are known for their habit of accumulating shiny things and as long as man’s history goes, we have thought highly spiritual people to be bright and shiny beings.

Therefore reading Raven’s Peak we find it to be an age old look at the tale of strife between good and evil as reflected by Heaven and Hell and the attempts of demons, the inhabitants of Hell to accumulate and take possession of the bright and shiny souls of “good men”.

The main character is Abigail Dressler, a hunter of demons, working for the Council of Chaldea, a circle of present day clergy men from around the world whose job it is to safeguard humanity from the netherworld.
In her pursuit of her vocation, Abigail picks up a tail, Haatim Arison, who had, unbeknownst to himself been put on her track by a demon inhabiting a human body. Haatim, thinking he is following a would be murderer unexpectedly gets sucked into the investigation and fighting between Abigail and the demon she is shadowing, and finds himself in the middle of life threatening situations.

Carrying through the story of the book and the battles between the protagonists are the treads of Abigail having to keep Haatim safe, while looking for information to regain her adopted father who had been snatched to Hell by another demon.

The fact that Haatim had lost his faith because of the death of his sister, despite his family being highly religious, heightens the suspense of the story as you just know that this will be a central pivot in the tale.

Despite the gory details of death a mayhem which is normal to a book in this genre, there are moments of good humour and fun in it, and at times I found my emotions tied up in what was happening, my expectations on edge as the story unfolded. The descriptions are good enough so you can build a nice picture of events and get thoroughly involved in the actions.

I would give Raven’s Peak a 4 out of 4 stars rating in spite of a few typos that escaped the official edit. This book will appeal to those who like a satisfying swashbuckler tale of good and evil and do not want too much blood and gore or overt sex scenes.
