Boy meets girl. Good versus Evil. Secret Organization and World Catastrophe. This book is everything you could ask for a fantasy-suspense-action genre. Haatim is a blogger currently suffering from depression. Abigail is a hunter who fights demons. Their paths will cross and together, they will discover part of themselves they never knew existed before.
I have nothing but good words to say about this book. In fact, this is one of the novels I cannot stop myself from reading. It was excellently written. There was an element of suspense in every chapter that slowly unfolded in unanticipated ways as the story went on.
This was written in third person point of view but I understood every fight and emotions of the heroine. Calling Abigail badass is an understatement. She was daring, instinctive and clever. In addition to that (as if those qualities are not enough to make her the ideal heroine), she has a heart that genuinely cares for innocent lives. On the other hand, although Haatim may seem like the sissy and nerdy type, they have an undeniable chemistry together. I felt that the author tried to keep their relationship as platonic as possible, but I do not know how, at the same time, he managed to make me feel the budding romance and not-so-blatant sexual tensions between the two. Seriously, I would cry if they did not end up together. Moreover, the change of point of view between the characters, both the major and minor ones, made the novel more exciting. I specifically enjoyed the part where the author focused the story on how the demon took control, manipulated and killed people. The action scenes were well-described, to the point that my imagination ran wild in movie-like quality.
Also, this book did not just entertain me, but reminded me of the importance of spirituality as well. I share the same view as the author in terms of defining evil. It shot straight to me; I had to highlight it on my reader so I can come back to it anytime. This book talked about believing and having faith. Trusting the unknown and fighting for what you believe is right.
No doubt, Raven’s Peak deserves a 4 out of 4 rating. Its ending made me so desperate to have a hold of its sequel. However, some of the scenes may be brutal and I would not recommend it to very young audience.
