We are shown Arthur a renowned demon hunter of the council who now prefers to spend his days in an isolated cell which he put himself in cleansing himself with self-inflicted pain due to the belief that he is a monster. The news that his adopted daughter Abigail who is also a hunter has been taken by a demon with no one else to go after her forces him out of his solitude as he tracks down Abigail. He comes face to face with the demon who is currently inside Abigail’s body. He discovers he is no match for the demon and the only way to save her is to become a vessel for the demon. In the process, he gets cast into hell alongside the demon.
Abigail is back on her job after five months and is given menial tasks to keep her busy and avoid her searching for a way to free Arthur. In the process of doing her job she gets saddled with a companion named Hattim whom she must protect. Hattim, a grieving man who just lost his sister and is currently struggling with his faith gets thrown into a world which tests the very faith he thought he had lost. He struggles to accept the things currently happening around him as he also uncovers family secrets.
I liked the fact that despite this book being about demons and expecting to find gory details which would make me unable to have a good-nights rest, it was a thrilling work of fiction which left me breathless due to the non-ending fast paced action which is so well written it is easy to picture it happening in the back of your mind.
The book Raven’s peak, is part of a trilogy this being the first of the series. The book captures the good in humanity how one would sacrifice to save people they do not know or barely know. Although religion was not the main factor in this book, religious names were used and referred to but not in excess as in most demon related books.
This book was one which I finished in one sitting, it went by in the blink of an eye. I appreciated the way the characters were relatable and diverse. I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I encountered some minor grammatical errors it was worth the read and I really cannot wait for the next book.
