A Long-Ago Place by Donna Betten is a memorable kids' book that does have relevance to all age groups as it enthuses both children and adults who are recollecting their childhood memories. Picturing Julie Westmaas, the story starts with her mother telling her that, as a little girl, she had so much time to play under a mulberry tree in her backyard and use her flood of fantasy worlds.

The description expresses such a sense of fantasy that the little girl is living in the world of her own imagination. In this imaginary world, a rock becomes a stove, a twig from the fig turns into a broom, and the soil underneath the mulberry tree is the perfect house for the family of her dreams. The drawings in this book add to the story's airy, lyrical mood, unveiling through their pen work the state of peace and creativity that comes from alone time and pretend play.

The highly saturated pictures with subtle presentation are in harmony; thus, they provide a charming tone, giving a good effect without being loud. By using a dark font in contrast to a bright background, the feature comes out clearly to readers. Due to my likes for this book already listed, I will rate it 5 out of 5 stars. The book is very well edited and probably reviewed by a proofreader without any conspicuous or noticeable issues. In my reporting, I have not found anything that bothers me in this book.

Donne Betten's work speaks of the role of imagination and is a pointer to spending more time with technology in the present age. It drives them to explore their own world via games such as 'house'; they learn to take responsibility through discoveries of things in real life, and I highly recommend it for the youngest readers. Parents have the ability to use this story to motivate the kids and encourage them to be creative and play actively by means of imaginative play. This will enable the children to have fun and discover the world through their own eyes.
