Phobia Relief by Kalliope Barlis

This is a self-help book that provides us with a step-by-step process to overcome our illogical fears, attain freedom, and embrace our lives fully. This book is based on Neurolinguistic Programming(NLP), a technology related to thinking. The author, Kalliope Barlis, is a Master trainer of NLP.

The book starts with a foreword by Dr. Richard Bandler, the co-creator of NLP. He quotes,

“Change the way you think;
It will change how you feel,
and therefore change what you can do.”

I was extremely impressed with it. It is a simple yet powerful quote. "We become what we think" is one of my life mantras. I was naturally drawn to the book because it preached the same message.

The main idea behind this technique is to weaken old pathways and to create new ones in our brains. This occurs when we change how we think. In addition, the author makes use of laughter to help modify the pathway. When we laugh, our brain produces a chemical called oxytocin, which increases the plasticity of the brain, making it more flexible to change.

The first step in the process is shrinking the fears that we have. The author states that fear paints a large picture in our minds. She helps us shrink its size by “blinking it black to white." The second step is to find the purpose of life. This leads us to live a meaningful life filled with whole-hearted moments. The author emphasizes that happier people don't have illogical fears and live with a purpose. The final step is to build a better life by placing more useful elements in place of fear. She commands us to become the ringleaders of our lives.

In the beginning, the author gives a warning about the kind of fear she is talking about. She stresses that this book deals with illogical, uncontrollable fears like fear of snakes, clowns, etc. She cautions that fear of real threats should be present at all times. This saves us from any real danger.

Many inspiring life facts are scattered throughout the book. The author keeps repeating that the thought of what we fear scares us more than the actual fear itself. She also gets it right when she says that every problem in life is temporary. She implores us to forget the past and concentrate on changing how we think about fear to make it more manageable. She urges us to reinforce the fear with positive thoughts.

The author's writing style is not only easily comprehensible but also captivating. I was completely immersed while reading. This is one of the positive aspects of the book.

I didn't notice any typo errors. I believe the editing is impeccable

I didn't have any issues with the book. So I give it a full rating of 5 out of 5.

We should be the controllers of our lives, not the situation. We become what we think, and so we should fill our minds with positive words. I recommend this book to those who are struggling with fear and seeking a way to overcome it. By following the guidance in this book, you will learn effective techniques to conquer your fears and live a more fulfilling life.

This thorough review describes a self-help book that instructs the reader how to use neuro-linguistic programming to get rid of phobias. Many of our fearful thoughts are irrational. This book will guide you to simply discard these overblown thoughts and replace them with realistic, positive thoughts. :techie-studyinggray:
