Who Told You That You Were Naked? A Refreshing Reexamination of the Garden of Eden by William E. Combs
As human beings our knowledge of good and evil is inborn. Unfortunately, this dimension of our intellect is the very reason why we are within the reach of sin. No matter how strong our endeavor to avoid the snares of sin, we can never avoid the devastating impact of our sinful nature, let alone become better Christians. Pastor William E. Combs offers a refreshing reexamination of how sin made its entrance into the world through Adam and how the Lord has redeemed us through the grace we are given through faith. This book will open the eyes of the lost and the overwhelmed.

“Who Told You That You Were Naked?” provides a biblically accurate account of the destruction of the perfect world God had created. Combs does not merely give the reader a plot summary, rather he interweaves the story of Genesis with His keen understanding of God’s word. As I was reading, I couldn't help but notice how well he was able to connect different thoughts, unique ideas, and even intriguing concepts with Scripture. In Chapter one, Combs shares a reenactment of Adam’s early days in the garden with the reader. Upon reading the excerpt, I have happened to stumble along this striking quote: “I won’t harm you little one.” Adam spoke reassuringly as he strode from the woods towards his home. He could feel its rapid breathing, its churning efforts to escape.’ Did this quote serve to foreshadow the upcoming downfall of beautiful creation? Does this quote imply that God knew that human innocence would one day disappear?

Providing readers with a deep and analytical view of sin, the book adapts the qualities of both a theological and spiritual genre. It is important to pay attention to the high level of vocabulary as he explains biblical definitions, and his vast knowledge of biblical history. That is what I derive form the theological parts of it. Now, the spiritual aspects of it are found when great emphasis is placed on the redemption we are given long after the fall. The cross between theology and spirituality was what I deemed to be most favorable. This would be a perfect for Bible Study use rather than just a light read.

As I was reading the book, I found absolutely little to criticize. After all, Combs provides the reader with a strong insight and background into Eden, an exploration of Adam, and a journey through the New Testament. Seeing that those were also my favorite parts of the book, I must also say that his intellect and deep faith have created a spiritually enriching read.

I give Who Told You That You Were Naked a four out of four stars to a man of God. A man, who spoke the truth, is the light of the world, and the salt of the earth. Now, I know this book will appeal to all who are thirsty for God.
