In "First Survivor," Mark Unger narrates the heartwrenching journey of his son, Louis, who was diagnosed with cancer at a very young age. The book begins with his abnormal walk and lack of communication, which were absorbed by his mother, Mary, and bothered her. The series of multiple tests and visits began with family. On fateful Thanksgiving Day, they received devastating news of Louis being diagnosed with neuroblastoma cancer through Dr. Beardsley. Both parents played a pivotal role in his treatment and well-being. Louis was closer with his elder brother, Harry, which was quite evident throughout the book. Mark shared all the ups and downs; the family and Louis went through an inspiring seven-year journey of cancer.

I applaud author Mark Unger for sharing the familial bond and spirit of young Louis in a captivating way. From tracking medications to treatments, everything was recorded by the author in this book. The spirit of young Louis and his innocence were brilliantly captured through the use of pictures in this book. The special messages from Mark for his son moved me deeply. He also gives advice about the healthcare system, which must be carefully approached by everyone.

The author's writing skills were amazing, which captured every moment of Louis's recovery from illness. The dialogue delivery among the characters was both heartwrenching and heartwarming, capturing the essence of love, sorrow, and struggles. The use of grammar and editing were exceptional, according to me. There was nothing to dislike about this book.

With my opinions above, I rate "First Survivor" five out of five stars. Through Mark Unger's poignant storytelling and profound insights, this book serves as a beacon of hope for children battling cancer as well as for those devoted caregivers. I recommend this book to anyone seeking inspiration in the face of adversity.
