This is another of Stevie Tenderheart’s books. Billy Jack (The Great Escape) by Steve William Laible is a short, fun children’s book filled with adventure. It tells a tale about a young boy named Billy Jack and his encounters during his great escape.

Billy Jack didn’t like being sent to bed early. He always thought it was absurd. Playing with his friends seemed like a better option for him. On the day he began his escape adventure, he made sure to create a human form with clothes to avoid arousing suspicion from his parents. He considered his idea smart. He made his escape through the window. Unfortunately, he landed on some rosebushes and got stuck. The thorns pierced through his skin, causing him great pain. What could he possibly do now? Could this be the end of his escape mission?

I had a wonderful time reading this book. The author is indeed a good storyteller and knows how to make a story more interesting with his tone. The author encouraged children to be innovative thinkers and big problem solvers. He made sure to give meaning to all the words he felt would be difficult for children to comprehend. I liked the fact that the author added lots of pictures; it gave the book a nice touch.

Since I found no grammar or punctuation errors, it is safe to say that this book was exceptionally well-edited. Also, there was absolutely nothing I disliked about this book. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars.

The lessons this book teaches will help children learn a lot about obedience and also appreciate the good that comes out of every situation. This book is a bit lengthy for a bedtime story but can serve as a storytime book for children in school or the library.
