Book Blueprint by Jacqui Pretty is a how to guide for entrepreneurs to take their business to the next level by publishing a book. Jacqui Pretty shows the reader each step needed to write a successful book. She offers guidelines to create effective, informative content. Interactive sections offer questions and exercises to create a working outline of the reader's own book.
Jacqui Pretty sets up her credibility early in the book and explains how the reader can do the same. She then goes on to explain why credibility is important for an author. Pretty also covers basic concepts - like explaining how to pick a book topic and sort out content options. The book also addresses more challenging topics - like making the most technical of jargon accessible to any audience. If you read this book with a notebook and pen you will end up with a completed outline and head start on your own book.
While Book Blueprint is marketed as a business skills book, the content could apply to any non-fiction writer or even as a guide to outlining a particularly intricate novel. The process that Pretty describes is an invaluable tool for any writer. The questions make you think about your work while the exercises help you look at the broader topic. Each chapter takes you one step closer to a well organized rough draft.
As thorough as the content in Book Blueprint is, there are glaring errors to the MOBI file. The first issue is the lack of cover and a muddled title page. The subtitle (How Any Entrepreneur Can Write an Awesome Book) overshadows the actual title. There is also a jumble of hard to read words before the author's name. The book's paragraph structure is puzzling, I hope it's just the version of the file I received. Sentences are cut in half in favor of line breaks, what seem to be page numbers appear in the middle of the page between poorly formatted footnotes, and there are more than a few spelling errors. After some fiddling with the font size I got some of the pages to align somewhat ok. The poor formatting did take away from Jacqui Pretty's credibility as an editor.
I rate Book Blueprint by Jacqui Pretty 3 out of 4. The content is wonderful and the author's style is very easy to read. The formatting issues were distracting and inappropriate for the books' subject.
