I just finished reading Superhighway by Alex Fayman and I absolutely loved it. It is not just a supernatural/science fiction book. It also has action, romance, and a coming of age story that is the first book of the trilogy. I have heard this book referred to as “The New Age Robin Hood”.
Alex Fine is an orphan with a special talent that he realizes quite by accident. When the chance at adoption had failed more than once, he decided to make the most of his life at the orphanage. He did, however, discover the internet in one of his foster homes and was over the moon when the orphanage received some donated computers. This was when he discovered he could travel through the internet. His life will never be the same.
There are three women that make lasting impressions on Alex. The first is Mrs. Jenkins, the head administrator. She has raised and loved Alex from the moment he showed up at the orphanage. The next is Emma. He me Emma on his first trip through the internet. While he only knew her briefly, she left a mark that he will never forget. The last one is the love of his life, Eva. She is everything to him, but time will tell if the bonds of love are enough for them to survive.
While reading this story, there were parts that made me remember the phrase “The road to hell is paved with good intentions”. You can see the struggle Alex has with some of the decisions he has made and then the eventual fallout from these decisions. I think the author did a great job in showing how people in their late teens and early twenties are apt to make rash decisions for a good purpose without thinking about possible consequences. There is also the confusion of rushing hormones and new and unknown feelings thrown into the mix.
I give this book a 4 out of 4 star rating because it was such a pleasure to read. This is the type of story that will draw you in and when it is done, you will immediately be looking for the next in the series. As a matter of fact, I have already purchased the next in the trilogy. My favorite thing about reading this book was watching the way Mrs. Jenkins served as Alex’s rock and also the way Alex had to learn to deal with new relationships. I think the books shoes us that even good people can do wrong or make bad decisions. I did not notice any errors and the story flowed as smoothly as a science fiction story can. I have already started recommending this book to those that I know love this genre.
