To prevent further loss of life, it is the objective of retired U.S. Marshals Service superintendent Paul O'Malley and his associate Harry Esten to decipher the riddle and apprehend the assassin. Readers are captivated as Ayotte creates a page-turning game of cat-and-mouse as the police team dashes against the clock.
The antagonists and protagonists of Disappearance are meticulously portrayed and fully realized. Although O'Malley and Esten serve as the primary protagonists, Ayotte adeptly imbues the narrative with intricacy and depth through the presence of an abundance of supporting characters. The profound character development facilitates readers' ability to establish a connection with the characters and their narratives, thereby augmenting the overall immersion and captivation of the story.
