The author is a fine art photographer and an Iranian immigrant living in America whose childhood upbringing and philosophical view of what ails the world, forms the basis of Followed my star. Followed my star is the third of a three part, non-fictional, philosophical series by Ar Annahita.

This nineteen chapter book covers themes relating to politics, family, sexuality, sex education, religion, marriage as well as abortion. Chapter one appealed to me in the sense that the writer succeeds in connecting with the reader by providing a solid yet personal in nature, background to what motivated her to write the book. I found this to be a good starting point and I was able to relate to what she discussed in the first chapter. In the other chapters, however, the book lacks in flow with the writer largely focusing on lamenting about what she considers to be vices in the modern world as well as her own bad experiences in life. I felt the writer should have concentrated more on developing the themes and using those themes to provide a frame work for achieving world peace which is the book’s primary goal. In some instances, the writer does raise valid points on themes relating to family and sexuality but are eventually lost in the writer’s laments.

Some of the writer’s view on sexuality and religion has the ability to spark controversy from those who hold different views from hers. Though the writer is entitled to her own opinion on matters of religion, I found her perspective on the nature of God, the use of the bible and faith to be miss-informed based on my own knowledge of the bible.

The writer has great potential for writing but the book’s lack of polishing in the editing, grammatical errors, poor sentence structure and undeveloped themes negates the book intended purpose. The writer’s assertion that the book would help the reader find balance in their life is barely achieved as the reader has to keep a slow pace while reading in order to grasp what the writer wishes to communicate. For all the above reasons and the writer’s success at establishing a connection with the reader in the first chapter, I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars.

Though unprofessionally edited, I recommend this book to those who have interest in exploring other people’s perspective on religion (both Christianity and Islam), sexuality, politics, family as well as abortion

you have a point about readers possibly reading the book for the author's perspective. I was not a fan of it though. Feel free to check out my review. I rated it 1 out of 4 stars.
