Homecoming by Jude Austin is a sequel to Project Tau. After months of being held captive by GenTech scientists and being used for experiments, Kata finally escaped. He wants to go to a safe place with his friend Tau. But then, is that really freedom for him? Does respite await these characters after all they've endured already?

Jude. Austin's literary prowess shines through in this book, a remarkable evolution from the first book in the series. Her deft handling of humor deftly counterbalances the narrative's somber and ethically ambiguous moments, creating a captivating story of moral complexity. The book unveils a spectrum of morality, where each character faces defining moments that challenge the boundaries of justification for their actions.

Kata and Tau fascinated me the most in this book. Their shared status as escapees links them together, even as their backgrounds differ—Kata, formerly known as Kalin Taylor, and Tau, an engineered being. Homecoming traces their unified quest for both literal and figurative homecoming through an adventure leavened with jeopardy.

I love that this book highlights Tau's complex development as he navigates issues of autonomy, relationships, and self-discovery. It focuses on his inner turmoil about ownership and how that affects his bonds with both Kata and other characters. I also love that Jude Austin built empathetic characters who I could relate to, even though the book is science fiction. It is rare to find this in most science fiction; hence, the author deserves some credit for it.

This book is a source of compelling mystery for potential readers. Before reading Homecoming by Jude Austin, ensure that you have read book 1 of the Five Worlds series first, as this one is book 2. I recommend this book to those who enjoy science fiction, and I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. The book was professionally edited, and I disliked nothing about it.
