Title: Who told you that you were naked?
Author: William E. Combs
Publisher: Carpenter’s son Publishing
The author of ‘Who told you that you were naked?’ William E. Combs wrote an illuminating sermon, I appreciated reading the book together with the Bible as reference. I personally enjoyed the book other than for a few texts that i felt went over the board in an effort to explain the context of the bible to bring it to our level of understanding, and the introduction which I find to be haphazard.
The book is great for spiritual development. I recommend this book to all Christians, anyone seeking in-depth understanding of Genesis, faith, peace, spiritual growth and development. The interpretation of Adam and Eve’s
relationship with God is quite fascinating, especially the part which mention the first
utterance of fear, betrayal and spiritual death. Before I read this book I have always interpreted death as a result of eating the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the literal sense not as spiritual death, indeed I am enlightened.
So many great things about the Bible I have learnt from this book that I love, my first favourite was interpretation on Genesis, how Adam extended the instruction given by God regarding the forbidden fruit and when sin was first mentioned, although I was not reading Genesis for the first time all these I have over looked before, these highlights what William talked about in the later chapters when he spoke about opening our spiritual eyes and ears, am not only healed by this book but also find myself closer to God.
Secondly Faith, in many instances I have found myself uncertain of my relationship with God, because I sin over and over again, ‘Who told you that you were naked?’ points out that
Abraham was righteous in God’s eyes, not because he was without sin rather because of his faith, I received a clear elaboration from William that gave me a sense of relief, I suddenly felt lighter, as if a heavy burden has been lifted off my shoulders.
William E. Combs drew a good picture to describe Adam’s loneliness, I even felt it myself, he had no one to converse with and the animals could not fill in that gap, I could relate to him wondering around in the garden of Eden alone having no one to share thoughts with but I disagree with the part where William speaks of harvesting and gathering fruits, to store for the rest of the year, Eden was in abundance there was no need to store, the work given to Adam was to watch over the garden and
naming the animals only. I rate ‘Who told you that you were naked?’ by William E. Combs 3 out of 4.
