It's not every day that you read a book that makes you wish you were an alien. Janet McNulty's book, Solaris Seethes (book one of the Solaris Saga), did just that. This book is an exciting adventure, marked with heartbreak, epic battles, friendship and a touch of revenge, plus it all takes place in space, which is especially exciting!

In this epic space saga, Rynah, an alien from the purple planet of Lanyr, embarks on a quest, following in her late grandfathers footsteps, to protect the world from a secret and powerful weapon that has just been re-discovered. From the beginning, you find out that Rynah's fiancé has betrayed her and she betrayed her grandfather by not listening to his warnings about the pieces to the weapon. Rynah must decide how she is going to save her planet, destroy her ex-fiancés plans for mass destruction, while dealing with regret at how she treated her grandfather. Rynah, with the help of an artificially intelligent ship, Solaris, search the universe for the pieces to the weapon. Solaris recruits four unlikely allies and they all work together to unravel the mysteries of Lanyr's ancient past and Rynah's grandfathers recent discoveries about that past.

The books ends and you aren't sure of Rynah's fate, will she succeed in stopping the destruction of the universe or will she be destroyed by this quest? The good news is that it's a series and you can keeping reading the Solaris Saga to find out!

This sci-fi/fantasy book is for anyone that enjoyed the Lunar chronicles and The Hunger Games...and for fans of the show Firefly. It is definitely a page turner, like stay up all night under the covers reading your Kindle so you don't keep your husband awake, kind of page turner-yes, I'm guilty of that. You will have to overlook some awkward phrasing and minor continuity issues, like a shirt being described as skin tight and then it blowing in the wind type of stuff-no big deal. I would like to think that awkward situations would be normal when in space interacting with several different types of aliens, so overlooking the slight awkwardness was alright with me.

I gave this book 3 out of 4 stars. Any book that makes me wish I was lilac colored alien with emerald green hair is a winner in my book, what can I say, I am a sucker for space adventures with a touch of revenge. If you'd like to be whisked away on a quest to save the world in a talking ship, read Solaris Seethes!
