Escape by Belle Ami is a uniquely different romance novel. Layla, a student at Harvard goes on a trip to Dubai with her Saudi boyfriend only to find themselves victims of an abduction. They are taken from Dubai to Iran and end up getting separated. Layla is unlucky compared to her boyfriend whose release is negotiated for by his parents. She finds herself in a prison in Tehran and is almost raped. Layla's father who is a nuclear physicist seeks the help of an Israeli Prime minister to help him rescue his daughter. Cyrus, who happens to be a spy is tasked with saving Layla at the same time he stands the risk of blowing his cover. Their escape from Iran is a matter of life and death.

Escape is a thriller as well as a romance which provides one with an animated read. The conflicting personalities of Layla and Cyrus keeps the reader engrossed in the book. Their dynamic keeps one on the edge concerning how they will get along as they try to escape. The book grasp ones interest from the beginning as the authors writing style is quite amazing as the storyline flows pretty well and purposefully.

The manner in which Layla and Cyrus related was quite captivating considering their setting. Their unique difference make the book all the more enjoyable as it keeps one guessing of what will happen. Their chemistry was well build from the beginning the author did an amazing job as their story was particularly rushed as compared to the cliche where characters hit it off too fast. In addition to the author's writing style and character development, there was also a clear role and purpose for all the additional characters with their stories adequately detailed which provided for a twist that wasn't easily predictable when it came to Cyrus' background story.

Once the climax was arrived at, the novel took a rather disappointing turn as it became somewhat predictable. This in turn led to a decline in the intensity the novel had before hand. This made the climax to feel short lived due to the predictability that came thereafter as the novel started to take a downward spiral in the wrong direction. The ending of the novel was also too rushed, therefore leaving one a bit disappointed.

Escape is a thriller as well as a romance that would provide readers with an exciting read that most are guaranteed to enjoy. I rate it 3 out of 4 stars. If it weren't for the turn it took after arriving at the climax I would have given it a higher rating. I commend the author on her writing style as it keeps a reader interested in turning the pages so as to arrive at the end of the novel.
