Lincoln Cole’s Raven's Peak was utterly fascinating. It was full of twists and turns. The story followed two protagonists who had a painful past that they were trying to overcome. The story was replete with challenges as one of the main characters was introduced to the world of demons in the middle of a predicament. The main characters’ test was to find themselves while running for their lives and feeling blindfolded from reality.

I give this book a 3 out of 4 stars rating. I did not give a perfect score because I was somewhat ambivalent and disinterested at first due to the story’s main focus on a significant character in the first part of the novel. The author was really detailed in his emotions that I was transported to the world he created; however, the character’s attitude and questionable morality at first did not compel me to root for him. I had the assumption that the book would revolve around him, but I was glad that the story shifted somewhere else connected to him.

In addition to this ephemeral dilemma while reading the first chapter, I thought the story was not original since I felt an essence of the world Cassandra Claire’s Mortal Instruments was set in. There were hunters, demons, references about God, confused individual who was suddenly forced to be part of a world he is not accustomed to, and a council that made questionable decisions. I felt like I was reading a spin off novel of the well-acclaimed franchise concocted with Stephen King’s intense imagination. I also saw a few clerical errors. It was evident that a professional did not proof read it. If he did, then he missed a few minor errors.

However, I would still recommend this book to other readers who want to be thrilled and be surprised. As I continued reading, I felt the characters emotions. The author deserves so much praise for his effectiveness in pulling his readers to his fictional world. The main characters grew in me. The characters were also very diverse, which makes it very refreshing. Cole was able to describe everything so profoundly that I felt every frustration, depression, anger, fear, as well as happiness of the characters involved in this captivating series. I was so curious on how the rest of the world would be introduced; though, not everything about the novel was explained and disclosed right away. Even in the end, I can still feel that I was not able to see the entire setting of the series, which is a good thing; it makes me want to read the next books. We were given a little of this and a little of that that created the big beautiful picture of Raven’s Peak.

With everything that was mentioned, I can really see how conspicuous it is why the book was awarded “Book of the Month”. The vivid imagination of the author as well as his skills in making his readers engrossed at his work is very praise worthy. Indeed, Raven’s Peak is worth a read.

Me too! I was reminded of Mortal Instruments while reading this book. But this kind of genre will really involve those things We will just have to base the difference from the author's execution. Good job!

Thanks! It is actually my first time to make a review. I have read a lot of books and I am really interested in this genre. Lol!

But yes, you're right. A book with this Genre would always have the same feel as Mortal instruments.
